Ten years after its first release, Ubisoft's open-world first-person shooter Far Cry 4 has been updated to improve the game's performance on modern systems. The game now works at 60 frames per second on the PS5 and Xbox Series S/X thanks to the latest patch.

Far Cry 4, created by Ubisoft Montreal, was published in 2014 for the PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox 360, and Xbox Series S/X. Release of the Far Cry 4 60 FPS Patch Patch 1.08 is a free update that improves performance on current-generation consoles to 60 frames per second. Before Ubisoft acknowledged the update on Tuesday, PS5 gamers first saw it and made online posts about it.

"A free update released today will enable Far Cry 4 to run at 60 frames per second on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PS5 Pro," the business wrote in a blog post. "The stunning scenery and unrestrained chaos have never been more inviting on console, whether you're wingsuiting out of a gyrocopter for an aerial incursion or wielding a rocket launcher atop an elephant as you charge into battle."

Users of the PS5 and Xbox Series S/X will be able to immerse themselves in the Himalayan environment of the game and experience more fluid gameplay thanks to the free patch. The game's performance on modern systems was formerly limited to 30 frames per second. The update comes right before Far Cry 4's Xbox Game Pass debut. Beginning on Wednesday, April 30, the game will be accessible through Microsoft's subscription service.

Far Cry 4 is on sale. Ubisoft also said that Far Cry 4 would be available for purchase on many platforms. The Xbox will have significant discounts on the game from April 20 to May 5, the Ubisoft Store from April 29 to May 20, and the PlayStation Store from April 23 to May 7.

The game is presently available on the PlayStation Store for Rs. 299, which is 85% less than its retail price of Rs. 1,999. As part of the Game Catalog, PS Plus Extra and Premium members can also play the game for free. Ubisoft has previously published a 60 frames per second patch for an older game on contemporary consoles. The French studio released a free 60 frames per second upgrade for Assassin's Creed Syndicate in November of last year. Prior to that, Ubisoft has released free 60fps fixes for Assassin's Creed Origins and Odyssey, as well. The business published a patch for Far Cry 5 at 60 frames per second for the PS5 and Xbox Series S/X in 2023.

Set in the fictional Himalayan nation of Kyrat, which is modeled by Nepal and Bhutan, Far Cry 4 tells the tale of Ajay Ghale, who returns home during a civil war and battles against the repressive government of tyrant Pagan Min.
